Benoît Coeuré

Head of Innovation Hub and Member of the Executive Committee, Bank for International Settlements (BIS)

Benoît Cœuré became head of the BIS Innovation Hub in January 2020. He is a member of the BIS's executive committee. Previously, he was a member of the executive board of the European Central Bank, responsible for market operations and European and international relations. From 2013 to 2019, he chaired the BIS's Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures and was a member of the Financial Stability Board. Prior to joining the ECB, Benoît served in various positions at the French Treasury. He was deputy chief executive, then chief executive of the French Debt Management office (2002-2007); assistant secretary for multilateral affairs, trade and development, co-chair of the Paris Club, and G8 and G20 Finance Sous-Sherpa (2007-2009); then deputy director general and chief economist of the French Treasury (2009-2011). He has authored articles and books on economic policy, the international monetary system and the economics of European integration. Benoît is a graduate of the École Polytechnique in Paris. He holds an advanced degree in statistics and economic policy from the École nationale de la statistique et de l'administration économique (ENSAE), and a bachelor's degree in Japanese.
