Zam Bin Askandar

Kamarulzaman "Zam" Askandar is a professor of peace studies at Research and Education for Peace, Universiti Sains Malaysia. He is involved with

many peacebuilding and conflict transformation civil society organizations in Southeast Asia, including the Southeast Asia Conflict Studies Network, the Supporting Human Rights and Peace Education in Southeast Asia Program, Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict and many others. He is also the representative of Malaysia to the Advisory Board of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Institute for Peace and Reconciliation. Zam has helped conflict transformation work in the region, including Aceh, southern Philippines, and southern Thailand. He believes in the conflict transformation paradigm and has applied this to his peacebuilding work in the region. Zam also runs a school for Rohingya refugee children with his family. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from West Texas University, a master's degree from the University of Texas, and a Ph.D. in peace studies from the University of Bradford, UK.
