Olena Orzhel is a senior researcher at the Institute of Higher Education with the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine; she is currently a team leader of research project on university social responsibility and community engagement. She is actively involved in the EU project targeting displaced universities from Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as other education projects on teaching and learning excellence, social and emotional learning, university leadership. Her previous positions include monitoring manager at the Erasmus+ Office of Ukraine, associate professor at the European Integration Department, international relations officer, and teacher of English. Her publications are dedicated to social cohesion, university leadership and social responsibility, European integration and governance. She obtained a Ph.D. degree in linguistics and post-doctoral degree in public administration; as a Muskie Fellow, she took part in a professional development program at Indiana University, USA, where she specialized in public affairs.
