There is growing momentum worldwide to make school grounds greener as a sensible and thoughtful approach to increase climate resilience and improve health and education outcomes, especially for those most impacted by systems of inequity and environmental injustices. How can we create a movement to catalyse this momentum into global change?
This in-person workshop is part of an 18-month project to identify and disseminate successful approaches to school ground greening from around the world to influence and help us, as a society, make significant progress in addressing complex interrelated problems. From January - October 2023 Fellows worked online to set the foundation for an International Greening School Grounds and Outdoor Learning Action Agenda to advance the movement to benefit children, nature, communities and climate around the world. Now at this in-person workshop in Salzbug, Fellows will identify practical next steps to realize the international movement. Fellows will build a road map of necessary actions, partners, and policy change through group discussions, capacity building, and project work to realize this goal.
This project will be led by Children & Nature Network, in partnership with Salzburg Global Seminar, the International School Grounds Alliance, International Union for the Conservation of Nature, #NatureForAll, and the National League of Cities Institute for Youth, Education and Families. The project began with a launch event in November 2021.
Participation at this meeting is by invitation only.
