National Park City Week

Online

Overview

Ensuring the cities support nature, health, and society is a challenge for urban residents globally. What solutions could National Park Cities offer?

Inspired by the aims and principles of the world's family of national parks, a National Park City is a place, a vision, and a city-wide community acting together to make life better for people, wildlife, and nature. A defining feature is the widespread commitment to act, so people, culture, and nature work together to provide a better foundation for life. Salzburg Global Seminar partners with the National Park City Foundation to support the aim of as many cities worldwide as possible becoming National Park Cities.

Two years after the launch of the Universal Charter for National Park Cities and the London National Park City, there are people around the world working towards making their city a National Park City. From Adelaide to Manila and Tokyo to Sacramento, people from different places and cultures are coming together with shared hopes and ambitions.

National Park City Week is an opportunity to come together to be inspired and learn from each other. Whether you are a curious student, city resident, community activist, political decision-maker, artist, conservationist, health leader, academic, or working on a National Park City campaign, everyone is welcome to learn from and contribute to our growing movement. National Park City Week is a partner event run by the National Park City Foundation.

As part of the events, the National Park City Foundation will be launching the National Park City Journey Book. This short guide details how to make your city a National Park City, the benefits of joining the National Park City Family, and explains the process for officially gaining the status.
