Leadership Lessons in COVID times (Sciana Cohort 3 & 4 Meeting)

Online

Overview

A key aspect of adaptive, collaborative leadership for crisis management and a thriving future to come is continuous learning. Adapting to the seemingly insurmountable disruptions of the current pandemics has come with tremendous potential for learning and systems change.

From January to April, the Sciana intersessional program provided members a dedicated space to stop and reflect on their leadership experiences over the course of the pandemic with other leaders in health. It facilitated a cross-sector and international exchange among members around challenges faced and lessons learned in leading through crisis. Over these last months, the discussion has allowed members from cohort 3 and 4 to reflect and distill their experiences into insight and possible action areas with the support of the network chairs, senior Ambassadors and fellow peers.

This Sciana session will build upon the continuous exchange and address critical leadership challenges more in depth based on emerging themes from the intersessional program, including the pyscho-social challenges of leadership. It will provide members with an overview of latest tools for decision-making and infodemic management with the support of external leading experts. Each cohort will also attend dedicated meetings for advancing their Sciana challenge.

The session will include the following discussions:

Fed up with your job? Leadership is Tough: A group discussion
According to research conducted by LinkedIn, more than over half of C-level executives in Europe have doubted their ability to lead during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many more claim that leading their organisations through the crisis to have been the most challenging experience of their careers so far. Sciana members will discuss how they are faring under today’s unusual pressures.

Infodemic: Tools for Handling Human Factors in Crisis
The right message at the right time from the right messenger through the right medium can save lives, while misinformation or mixed messages can cost lives. Infodemic management offers a range of evidence-based interventions that bring understandable, localized evidence-based information to citizens and drive positive health-seeking behaviour. This session will explore ways infodemic management can be incorporated into integrative approaches to public health.

Policy Tools for Decision Makers in Crisis
Leaders drew on a variety of traditional models to support decision making during the COVID-19 pandemic, including epidemiological and economic models. However, a new interdisciplinary tool has generated promising insights in Australia and New Zealand. It is a policy model, a decision-support tool incorporating epidemiological, economic, spatial and behavioural elements of the epidemic.

This session is open to all sciana cohort 3 and 4 members, ambassadors, and team.
