LGBT* and Faith: What Comes Next?

Online

14:00 CEST

Overview

LGBT people worldwide are increasingly insisting on their inclusion in faith communities and cultural traditions. In response to these calls and actions, many religious congregations have begun to interpret their own beliefs in more inclusive ways. Such positive changes are still nascent, however, and they must be supported and expanded to achieve LGBT equality.

In 2020, the Salzburg Global LGBT* Forum began a new initiative to address religion, cultural history, and LGBT inclusion (and exclusion), convening LGBT human rights defenders and cultural and religious leaders across faiths, geographies, and generations. In our 2021 Meeting, we reviewed our 2020 program and ask Fellows to help guide our plans for 2021 and 2022

PROGRAM FOCUS

In our fourth online meeting of the LGBT* and Faith initiative, we discussed our work in 2020 and presented with ILGA Asia our plans for 2021 and 2022. These plans include an audio version of our successful blog series and an on-site meeting in Salzburg in 2022.

PROGRAM GOALS

Our 2021 Meeting on LGBT* and Faith: What Comes Next? seeked to:

  • Strengthen the Salzburg Global LGBT* Forum network by virtually reuniting Fellows from our 2020 LGBT* and Faith Initiative;
  • Present our plans for 2021/22; and
  • Collect recommendations from our Fellows for our 2021/22 programs and goals, especially regarding the production of content and respective communication strategies.

PROGRAM PARTICIPATION

This program was open to Fellows of Salzburg Global LGBT* Forum Online series on LGBT* and Faith 2020 only.
