LGBT* Communities in Times of COVID-19: The Producers

Online

The global coronavirus pandemic is affecting communities worldwide – the LGBT* community is no exception. In a world where travel across borders and in-person gatherings such as film festivals are currently put on hold, how can LGBT filmmakers and producers best connect their work and reach beyond their local audiences?

Building on conversations initiated during the Salzburg Global LGBT* Forum program in 2019 in Nepal, Advancing Legal and Social Equality in South Asia, the next program in the new online series LGBT* Communities in Times of COVID-19 explored options for a creation of a website as a tool that would promote empowerment and more recognition to their respective creative forms of storytelling and documentation of LGBT*-themed content.

Program Format

This program brought together a small number of Salzburg Global LGBT* Forum Fellows to explore the feasibility of launching a new online platform to connect filmmakers and producers across the South Asia region and beyond. A fruitful conversation resulted in a preliminary plan on how to divide the organization of the design and managing of the platform. Further details will be shared with the wider group as the project creation develops; updates will be advertised on social media and the Salzburg Global LGBT* Forum website.

Program Participation

This program was open to Fellows of Salzburg Global LGBT Forum series only
