Protest and Pandemic: Has Misinformation Undermined Public Trust and Democracy?

Online

Overview

Are we living through a New Cold War and a New World Disorder? What is the role of citizens in safeguarding democracy, freedom and human security not just domestically but also at the transnational and global level? What new challenges now face international and intergovernmental organizations, and can meaningful and accountable change happen without them? What are the barriers to engagement and awareness around issues of security and democracy?

To address these questions, the Salzburg Academy on Media & Global Change is hosting a series of online workshops under the theme Protest and Pandemic. In this interactive dialog, key filmmakers, activists and scholars share perspectives on the extent of misinformation in today’s media space and how this undermines the security of citizens, institutions, and countries. These dialogs will lead to generative conversation about how we are approaching misinformation and security in our work, and how this will reshape our media and civic ecosystems going forward.
