Information Technology and the Future of Education

Abstract

Information technology is a term encompassing all forms of technology used to create, store, exchange and use information in its various forms. Because we live in an increasingly wired world, an understanding of information technology is vital to success. This workshop will provide the keys to information technology literacy for educators and consider the impacts of such technology across a range of topics. In addition to exploring the social, political and economic implications of information technology, the focus will be on the use of the Internet to gather information, and the development of skills and materials enabling educators to participate in and contribute to network-based activities. Participants will be university teachers and scholars from a variety of disciplines such as American studies, political science, history and law. Participation is limited to twenty-five.
