Mellon Fellow Community Initiative - Colleges and Universities as Sites of Global Citizenship

Abstract

As part of its International Study Program on Global Citizenship and with the generous support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Salzburg Global Seminar will conduct the second meeting of the second cohort of institutions participating in The Mellon Fellow Community Initiative (MFCI) from December 14-21, 2009. The second MFCI cohort met for the first time in January of 2009. In December, faculty and administrators of the same eleven colleges and universities from the consortium of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and the Appalachian College Association (ACA) will reconvene to continue developing their projects and initiatives aimed at creating a more focused and comprehensive approach to education for global citizenship at their own institutions and beyond. Participants will convene at Schloss Leopoldskron, home of the Salzburg Global Seminar, for a weeklong workshop that will allow them to further develop the projects on which they worked last year. Also, they will create strategic plans for carrying those projects forward at their own institutions, collaborating with other institutions, and collectively designing the next phase of the MFCI.
